Earlier this week, Volkswagen of America, Inc. was thrilled
to announce that its extremely popular 2015VW Golf GTI was named the “Yahoo Autos Car of the Year!” It beat out 16
other finalists ranging from economy hatchbacks to ready-to-go sports cars to
earn the top prize! Keep reading to learn more!
Yahoo Autos editors reviewed dozens of all-new 2015 model
year vehicles in the process of selecting the third annual Yahoo Autos Car of
the Year award winner! They eventually narrowed the field down to 17 vehicles
that were then put through a weeklong test that was judged by eight experts.
Tests included hundreds of miles in driving in loops through cities, along
mountain routes, and a thorough autocross day. The cars were judged in five
categories: performance, value, efficiency, design, and engineering.
The 2015 VW Golf GTI is a bigger, lighter, more fuel-efficient
model than previous generations. It continues to alter the scope of the
hatchback category by offering plenty of passenger space for five adults as
well as more trunk space than any midsize sedan! It features the VW brand’s
2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injection engine that produces 201 horsepower
and 258 pound-foot of torque. Michael Horn, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group
of America, Inc., had this to say:
Earning Yahoo Autos Car of the Year is further testament that the 2015 GTI is a highly competitive offering—within its segment and beyond. We are honored that the experts at Yahoo Autos have recognized the GTI as a no-compromise, quality vehicle that remains true to its enthusiast roots.
