2015 VW Golf Family Named Motor Trend Car of the Year!

Last month, Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) was thrilled to learn that their beloved 2015Volkswagen Golf family was named the 2015 Motor Trend Car of the Year! The 2015 VW Golf family consists of the sleek and efficient Golf models, including the Golf 1.8T, Golf TDI Clean Diesel, Golf GTI, and e-Gold models! Keep reading to learn more!

In evaluating all eligible vehicles, the editors of Motor Trend magazine considered a number of features and vehicle elements to determine which vehicle would come out on top. Eligible vehicles consist of cars that are considered “all-new” or that have undergone substantial upgrades from the previous generation. During the initial examination stage, vehicles are not compared against each other, but are instead taken through Motor Trend’s full batter of performance tests that evaluate acceleration, braking and limit handling. All vehicles are driven on three separate performance courses at an automotive test center before the finalists are selected. Ten vehicles were named Car of the Year finalists. All the finalists were driven around a real world road loop that allowed reviewers to determine how the car handles on a wide range of surfaces and traffic conditions so that reviewers can evaluate handling, engine and transmission smoothness, responsiveness, wind and road noise, and ergonomics and comfort of the vehicle. Finally, all the finalists were evaluated against each other in six key areas: design advancement, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety, value, and performance of intended function.
