Earlier this month, Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA)
announced that the latest member of the Volkswagen Golf family would be hitting
U.S. markets in just a few short weeks. Expected to hit dealership lots in
April 2015, the 2015
VW Golf Sportwagen is sure to be a top choice for those drivers that want a
versatile and dependable vehicle that offers a much sportier driving experience
that most compact SUVs.
The 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen takes the place of the outgoing
Jetta Sportwagen. It uses the same Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) architecture
that was introduced with this latest, seventh-generation Golf lineup, and
manages to be both bigger and lighter as well as more powerful and efficient
than the outgoing Jetta SportWagen, ensuring that it improves on it in every
regard. The 2015 Golf Sportwagen will be equipped with one of two powertrain
options: the EA888 1.8-liter turbocharged and direct-injection four-cylinder
engine that generates 170 horsepower; or the EA2888 2.0-liter turbocharged and
direct-injection four-cylinder TDI Clean Diesel that generates 150 horsepower.
The 1.8T comes paired to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission,
while the turbodiesel gets either the six-speed manual or a six-speed DSG
dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 1.8T earned an EPA estimated fuel
economy rating of 36 mpg on the highway and the TDI earned an impressive 43 mpg
highway rating!
It will be equipped with many of the same features that
stock the rest of the Golf family, including several new comfort and
convenience features such as a premium Fender Audio system, 12-way power driver’s
seat, and the Cilmatronic automatic air conditioning system. Advanced safety
features include automatic post-collision braking system, forward collision
warning system, and front and rear park distance control. To check out all the
features and specifications available, head on in to your Volkswagen dealers near Chicago,
