Last week at the 2015 Washington Auto Show, Volkwagen of
America, Inc. (VWoA) announced that it was teaming up with another automaker, and ChargePoint, the largest electric vehicle charging network in
North America, to form an initiative to bring more charging stations for
electric vehicles along heavily trafficked driving corridors along the East and
West coasts. The three are teaming up to demonstrate their support and
encouragement of not only electric vehicles, but providing overall more environmentally-friendly

With more than 280,000 electric vehicles (EV) sold overall in
the United States, EV drivers need more charging flexibility while on the go.
This initiative will help to combat that lack of charging ports and will meet
the large and growing demand for convenient and publicly available EV fast
charging locations. VWoA believes that the more widespread and higher number of
fast charging stations that can be made available to drivers nationwide, the
sooner people will embrace sustainable vehicles. In the initial phase, the aim
is to install nearly 100 DC fast chargers along both coastlines, with plans to
eventually expand the program to include the entire United States. Once there
are enough EV charging ports nationwide, VWoA can expand their reach of where
the efficient and environmentally friendly 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf is sold! Jorg
Sommer, vice president, product marketing and strategy, Volkswagen of America,
had this to say about the new initiative:
Volkswagen believes in a holistic approach to e-mobility in
order to create a seamless experience for the consumer. The investment in the
express charging corridor will provide e-Golf and other electric vehicle owners
with the added support to travel their day-to-day and popular long distance
routes.
