Volkswagen’s Turbocharged 1.8-liter Engine Named to 2015 Ward’s 10 Best Engines List!

Last month, Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) was thrilled to learn that the Volkswagen EA888 1.8-liter four-cylinder TSI engine was named to WardsAuto World’s “2015 10 Best Engines” list! This marks the second consecutive year that this turbocharged and direct-injection engine was named to the list. Keep reading to learn more!

The EA888 turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder was recognized for its exceptional torque output, value, and fuel economy. Tom Murphy, executive editor, WardsAuto World, had this to say about this exceptional engine:

Volkswagen’s 1.8-liter TSI four cylinder is a tremendous engine in an affordable, extremely capable compact car. In the all-new Golf, this turbo-four makes more torque than it did last year in the heavier Jetta. More torque at a lower price in a car that routinely topped 33 mpg in our testing? Keeping this engine on the list was a no brainer.
The 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine made its debut in the 2014 VW Jetta, 2014 VW Passat, and 2014 VW Beetle models. It was designed to be lighter and more fuel-efficient than the previous 2.5-liter engine while still delivering comparable power and torque. The EPA estimates that it will have an estimated highway fuel economy of 37 mpg when paired with the manual transmission. It’s also important to note that even though it is lighter than the engine it replaced, it delivers 170 horsepower and 200 pound-foot of torque!
